Individual Counseling and Psychotherapy
I will work with you on understanding what is going on in your life now, the possible reasons why and what can be done to make positive change. Identifying patterns, often based on childhood experiences, is a way to find some level of understanding. However, understanding is only part of the process. Making positive purposeful change is the rest. Identifying your thoughts, values, beliefs and patterns of relating with others (often informed by both past and present experiences), then challenging them in a realistic constructive way, without fake praise or motivational speeches, is the essence of my work.
Couples Counseling
We all come to relationships with unique life experiences, perspectives, expectations, beliefs systems and DNA. Understanding what part these play in how we operate within a relationship and in our daily lives is a big part of the work done with couples. Issues such as communication skills, intimacy, healthy boundaries, assertiveness (asking for what we need) and finances are common topics in couple’s work. The overall goal is to support and strengthen the relationship. Contrary to the common myth, most relationships have not dissolved over the course of couples therapy, only grown.
Recovery Specialty
What is recovery? As I see it, if you are embarking on the hard work, consistency and determination that is self-improvement, be it; attending workshops or classes, exercising regularly, daily prayer & meditation or participating in a mutual support group, you are “in recovery.” The most commonly known program of recovery is that which deals with alcohol or drugs.
I am well versed in and experienced with various programs of recovery and fellowships including; 12 step recovery and anonymous fellowships (AA, NA, SAA, GA, etc), SMART Recovery, Refuge Recovery as well as Moderation Management. However, people can develop an unhealthy relationship with or become addicted to many things including sex, food, gambling, pornography, gaming, or other substances.
Addiction affects the lives of all of those around it and often times is spread through attitudes and behaviors. Terms such as co-dependent and adult children of alcoholics describe these effects. I also work with loved ones of those struggling with addictive or unhealthy behaviors. I am well versed in related fellowships such as Al-Anon, Gam-Anon, CODA and Nar-Anon.
If you are contemplating making positive change in your life (related to your own or someone else’s behaviors) or have taken the first steps to do so, I think I can help.
Therapy for Men
There are many roles that men typically inhabit, and often change over the course of a lifespan. Attributes and skills that bode well for one particular role, may not be the best suited for another. Or, at least, might need modification to fit another role.
I work with men, both individually and through group work, to assist them in living up to their higher selves as; partners, spouses, dads, sons, employees, providers, problem solvers, managers and any other role.
How we were raised, as well as cultural, community and societal expectations are part of who we are, and is evidenced in our attitudes and behaviors.
Identifying characteristics of our “higher selves” and genuinely putting forth effort to strive in that direction, is the purpose of my work overall, and particularly with men.
This is achieved by men being genuinely seen, actively listened to, and developing awareness of their own feelings, thoughts and beliefs through the therapeutic relationship. Then putting forth positive, constructive effort in their lives.
With great love and respect for previous generations- we are aware that often times what was modeled for us as “men” was limited, is outdated, or is down-right unhealthy, and we strive to change that going forward.

Insurance
I am not an “in-network” participating provider with insurance. However, many insurance plans provide “out-of-network” benefits, which reimburse a percentage of your fee.
I manage all paperwork and documentation and submit all claims to your insurance company for you to access this benefit. Many clients have used this option to make counseling more affordable.
